Scholarships for your Home Diocese
LICENTIATE OR DOCTORAL STUDIES
You are cordially encouraged to “adopt” your Diocese of origin back home or some other Diocese, by helping in the continuing education of your Priests.
Scholarship funds from other sources, if any, will be used first for the Priest’s needs, after which your donations will be applied according to this precedence:
- board and lodging
- medical insurance
- residence permit (permesso di soggiorno)
- summer Italian classes
- university tuition
- bus pass
- pocket money, books, etc. (up to a total of €1,000 per school year)
After the above needs are fully covered, any further incoming donations will be reserved for future student Priests of your chosen Diocese.
The Collegio Filippino also offers a home for Priests wishing to do a Sabbatical Program or attend short courses in Rome.
After years of hard work, Priests will definitely be “recharged” by spending some time for personal reflection, continuing education or simply experiencing some days in the heart of Catholicism — walking and praying where the early Christians and many saints have lived and worked.
THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH!

[ARCH/DIOCESAN LETTERHEAD HERE]
Please receive my warm greetings for you and your family.
Through this letter I wish to invite you to a unique opportunity to help our local Church of [DIOCESE]. At this point of our history, as we approach the celebration of 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines come 2021, we see the great need of sending more priests for further studies in Rome, to continuously strengthen the foundations of our faith among our people.
Priests in Rome live close to the Holy Father, grow spiritually where the early Christians and martyrs lived, specialize in different fields as they learn from leading professors and authors, master foreign languages, are exposed to other countries and cultures, and minister to our Overseas Filipino Workers. After two to four years of studies, they return to serve our Church and society back home in Seminary formation, Biblical Apostolate, Lay and Clergy updating, Catechesis, Tribunals, Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue, Bioethics, Church and secular media, and other specialized ministries.
We invite our friends, especially those like you who have been blessed with a stable profession in the US, to kindly help our Church in this concrete need. Each Priest needs around $14,000 (or 12,000 Euros) a year, for board and lodging, tuition, medical insurance, bus pass, books, and other expenses.
This amount could be easily covered by twelve friends giving $100 each a month. May we invite you to be among our friends supporting this endeavor? Your $100 each month, either given personally, or soliciting from other friends (e.g., five friends giving $20 each every month), will surely go a long way for our Diocese. You may send your donation via Zelle (preferably), Chase Bank deposit, check, or credit card, and will receive a tax-deductible receipt, through www.friendsofthecollegio.org.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any clarification. Since we plan to continuously send Priests to Rome for further studies, we kindly request that your commitment be for at least one year (at $100 each month) – after which you may either wish to continue, or ask some other friends to take your place in this effort. Assisting us in sending priests for continuing education in Rome is a very concrete way of helping our Seminary, our Diocese, and the whole Church here in the Philippines.
Thank you very much for your help. Rest assured of my prayers for you and your intentions. With every best wish, I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Arch/Bishop of [Diocese]
